Crypto with the Highest Search Volume in 2023
According to an analysis of Google search traffic and traffic to cryptocurrency price aggregators like CoinCodex, the most searched cryptocurrencies in 2023 include Bitcoin, Shiba Inu, Ethereum, Solana, Terra, XRP, Dogecoin, FTX Token, Pepe, and BNB. Meme coins, in particular, perform well in terms of search volume relative to their market cap, with three meme coins appearing on the list.
Bitcoin, the biggest and oldest cryptocurrency, topped the list, which is not surprising considering its strong brand and name recognition. Bitcoin’s recovery of 82% since the beginning of the year and recent news of key financial institutions filing to launch spot Bitcoin ETFs have contributed to its continued interest and search volume. It is unlikely that any other cryptocurrency will dethrone Bitcoin in terms of search volume.
Shiba Inu, a meme coin with a large community of holders, ranked second in terms of search volume, despite being the 18th largest cryptocurrency by market cap. Shiba Inu’s strategy of reaching a large number of users and its low price per unit have made it popular among investors. The upcoming launch of Shibarium, a layer 2 scaling platform for Ethereum that will utilize the SHIB token, is an important development for Shiba Inu in 2023.
Ethereum, the leading platform for smart contracts, ranked third on the list. Ethereum dominates the smart contract space and hosts important decentralized finance protocols, stablecoins, and NFT markets. The Ethereum blockchain is highly active, with over 400,000 daily active addresses and 1 million daily transactions. Ethereum also collects the most in fees compared to other blockchain platforms.
Solana, a fast and efficient smart contracts platform, ranked fourth on the list. Its strong performance in 2023, with a gain of 180% since the beginning of the year, has contributed to its popularity. Solana’s extreme efficiency and well-developed ecosystem make it a relevant blockchain platform, particularly for gaming projects and NFTs.
Terra, a crypto project trying to reclaim its former glory, ranked fifth on the list. Despite experiencing a dramatic collapse in 2022, Terra remains one of the most searched cryptocurrencies. The launch of Terra Classic (LUNC) and its active online community have contributed to its search interest. Terra Classic still maintains a respectable market capitalization of $503 million.
The remaining cryptocurrencies on the list include XRP, Dogecoin, FTX Token, Pepe, and BNB. XRP’s dedicated online following and ongoing lawsuit with the SEC have contributed to its search volume. Dogecoin, the original meme coin, has a strong community and brand, but its lackluster performance in 2023 has cooled off search volume. FTX Token, the exchange token of the now-defunct FTX exchange, has gained attention due to talks of the exchange being restarted under new leadership. Pepe and BNB also made the list.
Overall, meme coins and established cryptocurrencies dominate the list of the most searched cryptocurrencies in 2023, showcasing the continued interest and diversity within the crypto space.
